American Culture Inhabits New York Fashion Week

The chokehold that American influence and culture hold on fashion is raging from outlet to outlet this season. American contemporary designer, Stacey Bendet of Alice and Olivia, showcases her fall 2023 collection, featuring American culture favourites that bring 00s nostalgia.

The presentation included backdrops of American pop culture classics such as branded soda cans, snacks, and recreational activities. Not only did the fashion scream early 00s, but hits from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers created a nostalgic throwback as dancers and skateboarders showcased their talent.

The overall message of this collection is how fashion should exclusively represent who you are. There is no comparison, and it is OK to express yourself differently to others by what you wear, from the collection presentation of dark, edgy hues to preppy, playful suits.

Trends you should expect this fall include suiting, sequins, and lace. Expect to see lots of blazers and pant sets, from neutrals to bright, bold hues of greens and blues. Sequins and metallics are a MUST. You will see these fabrics styled for casual to formal occasions — lots of lace for those who like to bring out a more feminine side.
